Arthea is a personal-project planning tool, offered free of charge. These terms describe what it is, what it isn’t, and what you agree to when you use it. We’ve tried to keep them short and plain.
1. What Arthea is
Arthea is primarily an education tool. I wanted something more robust than a spreadsheet when I meet with my bank or financial advisor for retirement and long-term financial decisions. You record information about household, accounts, cash flows, and assets in your household, and Arthea presents projections, scenarios, and analysis based on that information together with historical market data. It uses Monte Carlo simulations to show projections.
Arthea is currently offered free of charge as a personal project. There is no subscription, no fee, no paid tier, and no obligation. We don’t promise the service will continue to exist, remain free, or work reliably.
Throughout these terms, “Arthea,” “we,” and “us” refer to the maker of the service. “You” refers to the person using it.
2. Not financial advice
Please read carefully. Arthea is not a financial advisor, investment advisor, tax advisor, accountant, or insurance broker. Nothing the app shows you is personalized financial, investment, tax, legal, or insurance advice.
The forecasts, projections, percentile bands, withdrawal schedules, and retirement-income estimates Arthea produces are projections based on the inputs you provide and on historical market data. They are not predictions, guarantees, recommendations, or professional advice. Real-world outcomes will differ, sometimes substantially.
Decisions about your financial life — investing, retirement timing, tax planning, real estate, insurance, estate matters — should be made with a qualified human professional where appropriate. Arthea is just something more than a spreadsheet. The decisions are yours.
3. Eligibility
You must be at least 18 years old and a resident of Canada to use Arthea. The service is designed around Canadian household structures, account types (RRSP, TFSA, RESP, etc.), and government benefits (CPP, OAS), and is not intended for use outside Canada.
You’re responsible for providing accurate information about yourself and the people in your household, and for keeping your sign-in credentials private.
4. Your data & households
Arthea is built around households — groups that may include you, a spouse or partner, and dependents. When you record information about other people in your household, you confirm that you have a reasonable basis to do so (you’re a member of the household, you have their knowledge, you’re planning together).
You own the data you put into Arthea. You can export it or delete it at any time. We use it only to operate the service for you and to maintain and improve the app. We do not sell your data, and we do not share it with third parties for marketing or advertising.

5. Acceptable use
To keep Arthea useful and safe, you agree:
- Not to attempt to access other users’ household data, accounts, or any data that doesn’t belong to you.
- Not to reverse-engineer, scrape, automate, or abuse the service or attempt to extract data at scale.
- Not to use the service to harass, defraud, or harm anyone, or to violate any law.
- To provide accurate information for your own planning. Arthea is only as useful as the information you give it.
- Not to attempt to interfere with the service’s operation or security, or to upload malicious content.
If you violate these rules, we may suspend or end your access to the service. We may also take legal action against you.
6. Free service, no warranties
Arthea is provided “as is” and “as available.” Because it is offered free of charge as a personal project, we make no promises that it will work without errors, be available at any particular time, produce accurate or reliable results, fit your particular situation, or remain in operation.
To the fullest extent permitted by Canadian law, we disclaim all warranties — express, implied, and statutory — including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy, and non-infringement. You — and any qualified financial professionals you engage — are solely responsible for any financial decisions you may or may not take.
You use Arthea at your own discretion and risk. You are responsible for backing up any information you’ve entered if it matters to you.
7. Third-party data
Arthea uses publicly available historical market data from third-party sources as inputs to projections. We do not control the accuracy, completeness, or availability of that data, and it may contain errors, gaps, or delays. Forecasts based on that data inherit those limitations.
Third-party data is provided for educational and personal-planning purposes within Arthea only. It is not licensed for redistribution, resale, or any use outside the app.
8. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent permitted by Canadian law, Arthea, its maker, contributors, and affiliates are not liable for any damages arising from your use of (or inability to use) the service. This includes — but is not limited to — financial losses, missed opportunities, lost data, decisions you made based on Arthea’s projections, or any indirect, incidental, consequential, or punitive damages.
9. Ending your account
You can stop using Arthea at any time and delete your account. This process is irreversible. Encrypted & automated backups are automatically deleted within 7 days.
We may suspend or end your access to the service if you violate these terms, if continuing the service is no longer possible, or for any other reasonable cause. We’ll give you reasonable notice where we can.
If the service shuts down for any reason, we’ll do our best to give you advance notice and an opportunity to export your data.
10. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. Continuing to use Arthea after a change means you accept the updated terms.
11. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the Province of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada that apply there. Any dispute will be brought in the courts of Ontario.
